Flume Drops Hi This Is Flume Mixtape With Mesmerizing Visualizer
It's been nearly two years since we last heard from the legendary Australian producer Flume (real name Harley Streten). This week we got our fix with the release of Hi This Is Flume, a 17-track collection of sense stimulating perfection. To accompany the drop, Streten teamed up with friend, visual artist, and fellow Aussie Jonathan Zawada released through Future Classic. He previously worked with him on the Skin album cover.
The mixtape is 36 minutes of eclectic pattern skips, beautiful atmospheric melodies, and game-changing bass. The release features a compilation of original new tracks with contributions from JPEGMAFIA, slowthai, HWLS, Eprom, Kučka, and a remix of SOPHIE's "Is It Cold In The Water".
Streten and Zawada take us on a psychedelic journey both sonically and visually. The release of the visualizer with the mixtape was essential. It elevates the music to another plane. The clips include lots of beautifully stylized overhead a wide angles, panned out landscapes, and tracking shots. It expertly conveys the chaos and confusion of the natural and urban world, as well as in the music matched up with each scene. The colors and editing are brilliant. These two are a match made in fever dream heaven.
Ever since his debut in 2012 with his self-titled album, Streten has been making waves as one of the biggest visionaries in the industry. He basically defined future bass then completely transcended the genre. His last official release was his 2017 EP Skin Companion II.
